MIPS Data Reporting Series: Configuring the Promoting Interoperability Scorecard
Posted: December 13, 2018

We’ve previously discussed the MIPS – PI scorecard within RevolutionEHR and how it breaks your performance down to give you a clear look into your scoring in the category. If you’ve never seen that scorecard you can find it via Reports > Administration > Providers > MIPS – PI:

In an earlier post in this series we discussed some key principles of MIPS reporting such as:

  1. Your eligibility can vary whether you report as an “individual” or “group”
  2. Your eligibility needs to be considered at each Tax ID you see patients

Once eligibility has been determined, the MIPS scorecards within RevolutionEHR not only aims to track your performance, but also help you analyze your data to make the best decisions for each Tax ID with reporting requirements.

That might sound like a mouthful, but let’s look at the configuration options at the top of the scorecard:

You’ll note that there is a “Provider(s)” field, a “Location Tax Id” field, and the ability to customize your performance period range.  Those three fields alone allow you to generate data for each Tax ID associated to your practice for any performance period you specify.

As an example, let’s say that a practice has 4 individually-eligible doctors across 3 locations and each of those locations has its own Tax ID.  We know that each location has its own Tax ID because the “Location Tax Id” field has three entries:

If the practice determined that it would be best to report for location 1 as Individuals, the scorecard would need to be run 4 times for that location: 1 time for each provider in the Provider(s) list associated to Location Tax Id “1”.  Running the scorecard this way returns data at the individual level for care provided at location 1.  Here’s an example for Dr. Carter:

If the practice determined that it would be best to report for location 2 as a Group, the scorecard would only need to be run one time for that location.  The Provider(s) selection would be set to “All Providers” and the Location Tax Id would be set to “2”:

That’s how your data can be produced for each location tax ID at either the individual or group level.  Prior to reporting this data to Medicare through a process called “attestation”, you’ll want to save each scorecard and you’ll want that saved view to properly reflect your SRA being completed and any registry engagement being documented.

The video below illustrates the concepts discussed above.  (Note that retired term “Advancing Care Information” is used in this video, but the concepts are still appropriate)
