The 5010 rule is a new set of standards that HIPAA requires for electronic claims submissions as of January 1, 2012. Originally proposed in 2008, the enhanced standards found in Version 5010 are aimed at creating more efficiency, accuracy and reduced costs in claims processing across the board.
As you may be aware, the CMS pushed the date of enforcement to March 31, 2012 and now have again announced they will not begin enforcing the mandated move to Version 5010 transaction standards for an additional three months, until after June 30. You can read more here.
Regardless of the enforcement date, fear not, as we have teamed up with our partner Gateway EDI to handle this for you and your practice. Your claim submissions since January 1, 2012 have been 5010 compliant thanks to our integration with Gateway and their efforts to force compliance with the 5010 rule provisions.
